SPECIAL PRODUCTS

Design, testing and inspection of special products

VITAL S.p.A. generates a considerable share of its turnover through the supply of special products that can be classified under the following categories:
• Variants of standard products, which are normally marketed by the company and mostly traceable to national and/or international standards.
• Products manufactured “from scratch”, made to customer request, design and/or sample
.

These products can be manufactured by using either “hot and/or cold forging” processes or “turning and cutting” processes in a wide range of materials, surface finishes and with a broad choice of packaging.

In addition, thanks to ongoing cooperation with local and foreign manufacturers, the range of special products is not only limited to bolting parts and also includes complex and assembled connecting elements such as, for example:

• Screws with pre-assembled components (various washers, plastic and
and metal parts)
• Anchor plates.
• Fixing brackets.

The internal production procedure for special products ensures
a high degree of technical and commercial protection for the end customers because they are always provided with samples for approval
prior to mass production.

In particular, this procedure comprises the following operational steps:
• The customer provides a technical drawing and/or sample of the special product, together with a brief description of its intended use.
• Internal verification of the customer’s drawing and/or sample and “critical” design features are flagged.

• Preventive economical offer: if the correct economic conditions are present, the customer may proceed to the next steps.
• Creation of an internal technical drawing.
• Production of free samples to be submitted to the customer for “approval release” following in-line testing or assembly tests on their products.
• Roll out of mass production and delivery of the finished product.

Manufactured products may also be characterised by special testing requirements during production or by special checks carried out post-production such as, for example:
• Sorting with optical-digital machines to ensure the products are free from foreign bodies.
• Selection with optical-digital machines to ensure compliance with one or more dimensional characteristics above a predefined percentage.
• Verification of surface coatings thickness.
• Corrosion resistance in salt spray tests over a predetermined number of hours.

SPECIAL TURNED PARTS

STP is an active business partnership between VITAL S.p.A. and a historic company specialising in the production of special turned parts from bar stock; the production unit is located in Arona (NO) and the entire production is carried out in Italy through the use of a modern, technologically advanced numerically controlled fleet of machines.

The production unit has an autonomous technical department and an internal control and testing structure. The production unit is at the forefront of processing the following materials:

• Inox steels and superalloys including: 1.4401, 1.4404, 1.4301, 1.4306/1.4309, 1.4305, 1.4462, 1.4460, 1.4449, 1.4980, 1.4571, 1.4016, 1.4021, 1.4104.
• Carbon steels included: 1.0547, 1.0549, 1.0553, 1.0737, 1.0736, 1.6511, 1.6546, 1.7035, 1.7223, 1.8159.

• Aluminium and copper.
• Aeronautical materials including UNS S13800.
